What the Activity Log in DeDup 1.0.1 on iPhone records, and what it doesn't

Rahul Pahuja·October 17, 2026·3 min read

The Activity Log in DeDup 1.0.1 on iPhone is a list of what you've cleaned up. Each entry has a date, a label, a number of items and a number of bytes. Nothing more.

Where to find it

Open Settings and tap Scan History, or use the entry in the side menu or the dashboard tile. The screen has two tabs: Scans and Cleanups. The Cleanups tab is the Activity Log, and the screen is titled that way when it's open.

What an entry contains

  • Date. Shown as day, month, hour and minute.
  • Category. A text label, such as "Moved to Trash · Image Scanner".
  • Item count. Shown as a number of items.
  • Bytes. Shown as a size, only when it's above zero.

Newest entries come first. When the list is empty, the tab says "No Cleanups Yet".

What gets written

An entry is added when:

  • You move photos or videos to Trash. The label names where they came from, such as one of the review lists or the assistant. The size is the total of those items.
  • Items are permanently deleted from the Trash, including by auto-clear. The label is "Trash". This is written only after iOS accepts the deletion, so a declined iOS prompt writes nothing.
  • You merge duplicate contacts. The label is "Merged contacts", the count is the number of duplicates merged, and the size is zero, so no size shows.

Where it's stored

The log is stored on the phone, in a local SwiftData database. If that database can't be opened at launch, the code falls back to a store that lives only in memory, and the history would last until the app closes. We found no iCloud entitlement for syncing it.

The Scans tab uses a second table. It records the date, kind of scan, duration, items scanned, duplicates found and bytes you could free. A photo, video or contacts scan is recorded when it finishes. The quick library index that feeds Screenshots and Large File Review isn't.

What isn't recorded

  • The names, thumbnails or IDs of the items. The log keeps counts and sizes only. (The Trash itself keeps each item's details so it can show them.)
  • Restoring something from Trash. The code adds no entry for it.
  • A scan you cancel or that fails.
  • Any way to edit, export or clear the log. We found none in the code.

Separately, when items move to Trash or are deleted, the app sends an analytics event with the same item count and byte total to Firebase. That event isn't the Activity Log.

Scope of this post

Checked against: DeDup 1.0.1 source code (iOS).

Not tested on a device: the screen's layout, whether entries survive app updates or reinstalls, and how the in-memory fallback behaves. All of it was read in the source, not run.
