A tour of the Settings screen in DeDup 1.0.1 for iPhone

Settings in DeDup 1.0.1 on iPhone holds a few dozen controls. This post lists the ones in the code, with their defaults and ranges. There's also a Language picker and an Account section, which this post doesn't cover.

Look and currency

  • Theme. Ocean, Midnight, Forest, Sunset, Rose or Mono. The default is Midnight.
  • Light / Dark. Auto, Light or Dark. The default is Dark, not Auto.
  • Storage Cost Currency. Used by the savings figures. It starts as your device's currency if DeDup has a rate for it, and a fallback otherwise.

Scanning

  • Enhanced AI Scan. Off by default. When on, scans use Apple's on-device Vision models to also group photos of the same scene from a different angle or crop, and to rank the best shot. The code only compares photos taken within 10 minutes of each other. The in-app text says it's slower and uses more battery. The photo-quality ranking only runs on iOS 18 and newer.
  • Similarity Sensitivity. A stepper from 0 to 20 "bits", default 10. It's the largest difference between two images' 64-bit fingerprints that still counts as a near-duplicate. Higher groups more loosely. It also applies to the frame comparison for videos. It takes effect on the next scan.
  • Large Video Size. 50, 100, 200 or 500 MB, default 100. Videos at or over that size appear in Large File Review.
  • Excluded Albums. Photos and videos in the albums you check are left out of every scan and result, from the next scan.
  • Clear Scan Cache. Asks to confirm, then removes saved scan results. The next scan analyzes the whole library again.

Background and alerts

  • Notifications. Shows "On", or "Turn On" to ask iOS for permission.
  • Background Scan. Off by default. It looks for new duplicates while the iPhone charges, and iOS decides when.
  • Low Storage Alerts. On by default. It notifies you when less than 10% of storage is free.

Clean-up reminders

On by default. The reminder repeats every 1 to 100 days, months or years, default 30 days. It's a local notification at 10 AM and carries a storage tip.

Trash

  • Auto-Clear Trash. On by default.
  • Delete After. 30, 60, 90, 120 or 360 days, default 30.
  • Open Trash. Opens the Trash.

Auto-clear runs when the app finishes launching and each time it becomes active, and it needs photo library access. It asks iOS to delete the expired items, and iOS shows its own confirmation. If you decline, they stay in Trash. With auto-clear off, items stay until you delete them.

Long-press preview

  • Close Preview. When released (default), After a delay, or Tap to close.
  • Close After. Shown only for "After a delay". A number from 1 to 600, in seconds or minutes. The default is 5 seconds.

The screen also links to Scan History and shows the app version. A Feedback section exists, and it needs an account.

Scope of this post

Checked against: DeDup 1.0.1 source code (iOS).

Not tested on a device: how any control looks or behaves on screen, whether notifications arrive at 10 AM, when iOS actually runs a background scan, and the currency rates. Defaults and ranges were read from the code, not observed.
